Framework Architects is excited to welcome our newest Project Designer, Atenor Ovalles, to the team. He went to the University of Houston where he received a bachelor's of architecture degree.

Let’s get to know him a little better now that he is part of the Framework family.

What led you to a career in architecture? What do you like about it?

A: Growing up, some of my family members had medical issues and I spent quite a bit of time in hospitals. I began to see the connection between wellness and spaces that encourage wellness and health. I began to see that a “place” can help heal you.

Why did you join Framework?

A: . I graduated from the University of Houston recently and through school I met Jeremy and Marvin. I contacted them in late April of this year, and they invited me to their office. Then, they invited me a second time so that I could meet the team. They are amazing people, and I felt very comfortable moving to Austin to join Framework and kick start my career.

What would you say your design philosophy is? What are you passion about?

A: Like the “why” I went into architecture, I am passionate about exploring how a building can help accelerate a person’s success, or facilitate ideas, or help heal the sick. I traveled a lot and saw sports architecture that was awe-inspiring. I love seeing these major venues and what they symbolize for a country or region and how they facilitate economies and even personal growth and success. Growing up in Venezuela we didn’t have fancy stadiums, so traveling to places like Munich, Germany and Spain really opened my eyes.

What’s something someone would be surprised to learn about you?

A: I worked for Real Madrid for a year as a soccer coach. Two summers ago I started working at scouting camps throughout Texas and my job was to find the “best of the best” who would then be invited to Madrid for the Real Madrid Foundation World Challenge. This is an international football tournament for young players, organized by the Real Madrid Foundation and brings together teams from various countries who participate in Real Madrid Foundation Clinics and Educational Football Programs. It was a great experience to watch a kid you recruited go through the process.

Atenor is a star--both on the field and off!
