Meet our newest team member, Jorge Cortez

Updated: Jul 31

Framework Architects is excited to welcome our new Project Designer, Jorge Cortez, to the team. He went to the Universidad de Guayaquil in Ecuador where he received a bachelor's degree in architecture and later moved to Austin, Texas in October 2019.

Let’s get to know him a little better now that he is part of the Framework family.

What led you to a career in architecture? What do you like about it?

Believe it or not, it was coincidence when I chose this career in college. I knew I wanted to continue my education but wasn’t sure in what direction. I took a bus to the university and when I saw the campus’ architecture building, I was so inspired that I solidified my decision to be an architect. Now, I love to design things, and realized I always have, so this wasn’t a completely random choice, but something about stepping foot on campus and being impressed with the design inspired me.

Why did you join Framework?

My wife works here in the same building as Framework’s headquarters, and she introduced me to Marvin. I’m so grateful they offered me the job because it’s the perfect environment for me. They are a small, flexible firm where I will be exposed to many different project types and can learn directly from the leadership. I’ve only been in the United States for two years, so I am learning a great deal about how things are done in the construction industry in America – and continue to learn the language!

What would you say your design philosophy is? What are you enthusiastic about?

If I had to choose, I would say modern design is more my personal style. I enjoy all the other styles as well--in fact we are designing a custom residence right now that is super traditional. The research I’ve undertaken to help me produce a great design has shown me how all styles have great distinctions.

I want my clients to know that, regardless of circumstance, they can be confident that I will always do my best in delivering the best work for them.

What do you like to do when not at work?

I love watching movies, watching documentaries that have to do with design, construction, and I also like to go to have dinner with my family. During the weekends we go to the park or visit friends.
