We recently read a great blog by @Cedar about the importance of due diligence on project sites early in a project. It’s a subject that hits close to home and we even touched on it ourselves in our blog, “Six ways to control costs on your next construction project.”
As Cedar mentions, due diligence allows you to develop better projects with higher returns. It’s important to understand a site before selecting it for your project. Once you examine topography, floodplains, and other existing conditions, you can make the right decision on site selection and even influence project orientation and egress and ingress access. Most importantly, this valuable information can help a buyer walk away from a property that doesn’t have the desired development potential, or in rare cases, cannot be developed.
The most frequent issues found on sites include the following items detailed in Cedar’s blog, featured below.

All ten of these points are important, and we’d add to that building a talented team of consultants and planners to help efficiently navigate the feasibility & due diligence phase of your project is critical. Contact us to learn more or if you need assistance with site selection.
